I have bad news for all you aggressive online poker players out there: you won’t be able to try your usual tricks at the microstakes online poker table. When you realize that microstakes is the new expanding field in the poker world, you are in a bit of a fix unless you know how to alter your playing style. Before you experiment with conservative play, it might be worthwhile for you to know exactly why boldness will not pay off at the microstakes table. Microstakes are typically conservative casino online games because no one really cares about losing the blind when it is just a penny. People play only based on their individual cards, so you won’t be able to bluff or intimidate them in any way. They fold or continue based on what they have in their hand, not what they think is in yours. You also won’t be able to raise as part of an aggressive strategy at the microstakes table because most of them are tightly controlled limit games. You can’t bet high in limit because it’s not going to do you any good. With all of these traditional avenues of aggressive poker playing blocked off, you are going to find that you need to change to play well. Aggressive playing won’t get you anywhere at the microstakes table.
